OurNanaimo Starts One-Year Countdown to Election Day

For Immediate Release

Friday, October 20, 2017

OurNanaimo has started the countdown to October 20th, 2018, when Nanaimo citizens will be able to improve the level of governance, debate and planning in our great city by electing a new city council.

Gathering outside city hall at 10 a.m. today, OurNanaimo members and supporters waved signs and chanted “Raise the Bar Nanaimo” as they marked Day 365 before Nanaimo citizens go to the polls in the municipal election.

Special guest The Queen of Hearts told her gracious subjects, “There is only one thing I find more delicious than a Nanaimo Bar, and that is an informed and involved electorate that turns out at municipal polls in high numbers, to effect the kind of change our city desperately needs.”

OurNanaimo is a grassroots, non-partisan group of Nanaimo citizens that grew out of NoVote2017, and is committed to a better Nanaimo.

OurNanaimo is seeking to achieve more effective, principled, representative and productive municipal governance for Nanaimo. A key element of their approach is to attract qualified, competent and knowledgeable candidates to successfully run in the October 2018 municipal election. OurNanaimo is in the process of formally incorporating as a provincial society under the B.C. Societies Act.
