WHY I JOINED OurNanaimo: I consider Nanaimo my home since I moved here in Grade 5. I love the area and the people who live here. I became involved in local politics through social media and after seeing the dysfunction with the current council. I became the spokesperson for NOVOTE2017 for the recent referendum. Through my work with Rotary and the United Way I see that our city needs a strong social services sector as part and parcel of a strong economic sector to build a strong community. I’m passionate about finding more ways for the public to have a say in the governance of building our city and community.

EDUCATION: Nanaimo Senior District Secondary; Studied Horticulture at University of Guelph; Two training sessions on Board Governance.

EXPERIENCE: Started working at Green Thumb Nurseries in 1971; Later worked at Chrysler Canada as an Assembly worker; Owner of Great Lakes Landscaping; Returned to Nanaimo in 1999; Started developing websites as a hobby, later for clients; Started working for NISA as Website designer in 1994, bought into the company in 1995, became owner in 2003; City of Nanaimo Grants Advisory Committee member for 5 years; Co-Chair of Main Stage 2008 held in Nanaimo; Chair of the 2014 International Executives Conference held in Nanaimo.

CURRENT COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: I currently sit on the board of the United Way after 7 years as President; Actively led the merging of 4 United Ways as President, helping build the UWCNVI from a $400K budget to currently over $2M; Past President of the Rotary Club of Nanaimo Daybreak; Past President of the Nanaimo Executives Association; Currently on the Board of the Chamber of Commerce.
